2014 Bien Nacido Estate "X-Block" Syrah
Hand harvested at night, and fermented with native yeast and malolactic fermentations. Then aged for 18 months in French oak; 25% new. This wine was bottled unfiltered. Dark aromatics of espresso, meat, and sage draw you in, but it’s the rich entry on the peppery and dense palate that’s a showcase of this vineyard. They complement the tightly wound but very long finish.
Monterey shaly loams. Grafted in 1987 and California’s first cool-climate Syrah.
